We are absolutely thrilled to present a regatta sailing clinic led by the legendary Croatian sailor Tomislav Bašić.
This clinic is intended for experienced regatta sailors who want to improve their practical and theoretical knowledge in regatta sailing.
Our goal is to improve your practical and theoretical knowledge in almost all factors encountered during sailing racing:
Teamwork: Optimal organization of the crew for each maneuver. Correctly sailed maneuvers allow us to carry out the planned Strategy and Tactics during the regatta and ensure potential gains in relation to our rivals. This segment includes the organization of the team where each crew member is familiar with the duties and responsibilities of each individual crew member and is dedicated to a team approach in meeting the requirements during a regatta.
Boat speed: optimal setting of the sails in relation to the weather conditions at sea (wind strength, wave height, sea currents) and in relation to our rivals and where we want to place us with optimal boat performance.
Strategy and planning of the regatta: everything we devote our time to before the competition when we are already on the regatta field preparing for the regatta that will start soon. What to observe before each race, how to sort out the priorities for the next race, what are the priorities of the boat (performance) for the next race, which sails to choose and why, and many other details that are very important in order to enter the next race with a clear idea of where we want to go and why we want to go there. We ll learn the importance of clearly definining priorities for the start and the course of the regatta and sorting out plan A and plan B (back up plan) before the start of each regatta.
Tactics: once we have defined our strategic plan, tactics are the way to realize our plan among other ships. “Battle between ships on the regatta field” implies knowing and understanding the behavior of the wind, the state of the sea (waves), understanding and using the ship’s performance in the given circumstances, optimally performed maneuvers, and positioning our ship in relation to other ships in the fleet in such a way that we “win” in most of the smaller duels during the regatta and improve our starting position during each race.
A 3-day clinic is not enough time to fully absorb all the mentioned elements in detail, so during our training we will make an effort to make the most of it.
Expect three exciting yet demanding days packed with theoretical lectures, practical practice at sea, lots of conversations during training at sea and daily apres-sail debriefings. That way the events of the day on land and at sea can be better understood, archived and the crew is prepared for the next day and new sailing tasks.
Our plan is to take this exciting journey further by devoting more time to each of the mentioned units in future clinics. We ll dig even deeper into the details and analysis and improve our knowledge and understanding of all the elements of sailing.
This clinic is intended for individuals, as well as teams who want to improve their knowledge and performance of the team and the boat during competition.
In already formed teams crew members will stay in their positions and adopt everything that can make their work better. Individuals will have the opportunity to change positions during the day (if they want, of course) and get to know the requirements of other positions on the ship.
All theoretical discussions on the shore and practical trainings at sea will be realized and shared among all participants and we ll make sure every question at the discussion is explained and presented for everyone. That way your knowledge of all areas covered should be significantly improved.
Please beware of the fact that this is an advanced regatta sailing clinic – it is intended for experienced regatta sailors, not for those who would like to start their regatta sailing adventure.
Our goal is to maintain certain amount of competitiveness among sailboats in the course and keep the sailing fun and challenging. This is possible only with an advanced knowledge level of the crews.
It is very important for us to know your preferences during training and what you would like to learn, so we will ask you to send us all your wishes so we can prepare in the best possible way.
We sincerely look forward to sailing with you!
Beneteau First 35 belongs to a legendary 'First' line built by renowned French yacht producer Beneteau. For many decades, a 'First' has been a synonym for beautifully designed, well-made, high-speed sailing yachts. Moreover, because famous Bruce Farr designed the First 35. Beneteau's winning card with 'Firsts' is a successful combination of the yacht's performance and crew comfort. So they are a standard sight in racing as well as lively summer cruisers.
That's why we fell in love with First 35 as soon as we saw and sailed one. That passion made us start one of Croatia's first one-design fleet and charter companies with ten identical yachts - Beneteau Firsts 35 - almost a decade ago. We're sure you'll instantly feel the same when you sail on one of our 'Firsts' in a Sail Faster! course. Or when you charter one after successfully finishing your RYA Day Skipper or RYA Coastal skipper course.
Except for the standard performance full batten main and head sails, you'll be able to explore the yacht's possibilities with symmetric and asymmetric spinnakers (gennakers). Because all of our Firsts also have optional carbon bow-sprits and spinnaker poles. The Latest Garmin chart plotters and instruments enhance the yacht's performance and safety.
One big wheel provides a refined sensitivity for wind changes and yacht motion. It enables fast manoeuvring and good handling in the harbour. The open and spacious cockpit - with strong Harken winches - serves the crew well for ambitious racing or leisure cruising and enjoying at the anchor.
The 'First 35's' 10,7 meters allow for a spacious, stylish and functional interior saloon sized like in her bigger sister - 'First 40'. It has two large double cabins, a well-sized L-shaped kitchen, a removable table, a chart table and a toilette with a shower.
There is also a holding tank for wastewater. The saloon seats are comfortable and long enough to be good berths. The light-coloured varnished woodwork is warm and modern. Two large opening hatches and several opening ports provide good light and ventilation.
Our Firsts also have heating installed, which helps for sailing in spring and autumn. With freshwater tanks of 200 litres, fuel tanks of 76 litres, and strong service batteries, they have everything needed for comfortable enjoyment in sailing.
